This
week beautiful make-up artist
Vicki Maria is taking over the WSd blog to give us the low down on the make
up trends of the moment...
Blue is often the neglected colour of a palette but not for SS 16... This season make your eyes as tempting as the ocean with flashes of azure, aqua, sapphire and sky. Try switching your eyeliner from black to navy or smudge electric blue shadow along your lower lash line. Be bold and blend a beautiful shimmery blue across your lid for a pop of colour. How beautiful is the Mac Mineralize Eyeshade in Blue Frame (£18)?

Try the Estee
Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Eye Pencil in Sapphire (£16.50) for a rich
and longwearing colour. The double-ended pencil has a smudger on one end and
colour on the other to create the perfect midnight smouldering look.
A hint of blue eyes at 3.1 Phillip Lim |
Style your lashes a la Twiggy and follow the
Sixties lash trend that fluttered its way down the catwalk. For a doe eyed look
reach for a fibre-based mascara such as Code
Beautiful VLM (£19.95) available at WSd. This magic wand and co-ordinating
pre-lash plumper, Code FFL (£18), will
achieve that oh so desirable Bambi look.
If you can't part with the falsies then Eylure style 118 or 120 (£5.25) will make sure you nail this season's trend for sultry Sixties eyes.
Statement lash and nude lip combo at Marni |
What is a masterpiece without a great frame?! Brows
pull your whole make up look together so make sure they are Monet worthy.
Invest in a brow kit with a wax or gel product to define, and a good
powder to enhance. The Benefit Brow Zings Brow Shaping Kit
comes with pigmented wax for shaping, natural-shaded powder for setting,
tweezers, a hard angled brush and a blending brush (£24.50). The secret weapon
for any artist is their tools, so to create the perfect brow shape, spend time
looking for a precise angled brush. Try the Mac 208 Angled Brow Brush (£16.50).
Plump up fine brows with one of the many fab new
brow mascaras on the market which all have fab little fibres to coat each
individual brow hair. Benefit Gimmee
Brow (£18.50) and L'oreal Paris
Perfection Brow Artist Plumper (£5.99) both prove their staying power
worth. Use them alone or after your brow kit for ultimate brow kudos.
Strong brow and lip game at Oscar de la renta |
My tips for lips are the extremes...a hot red or
a subtle nude. MAC has the most
awesome range of both. My picks are Ruby
Woo (£15.50) and Honey Love (£15.50). For a drugstore
pick, head to Rimmel (£4.99) for an
impressive selection of nudes and a few fab reds too.

The key to your whole makeup look is a flawless
base. Smooth, even toned, dewy skin is achievable with well-chosen products.
Invest in a serum to use alone, or under moisturiser for the perfect prep. For
a super smooth finish use a primer before you apply foundation to ensure it has
dawn till dusk staying power. Marie Claire hails the Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer Pore Minimizer as the ‘holy
grail of primers’ (£28).
“Strobing” is the word of the moment in the highlighting world. I love a Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick for a gorgeous glow (£33) or Mary Lou Manizer Luminizer (£15.75) that diffuses light so your skin will have a fab luxe finish. Apply your chosen highlighter to the areas of your face that would naturally catch the sun or that you just want to accentuate...along the top of your cheekbones, brow bones, inner corner of your eye, centre of your forehead, down the centre of your nose and chin. A word of advise though...go lightly, especially on you forehead and chin or you could end up looking a little sweaty.
Don’t forget Mother’s Day is just around the corner
and what could be better than a fabulously feel-good make-up lesson. Vicki also
has gift vouchers available for one-to-one makeup tutorials and mother and
daughter make-up sessions. If you love the sound of the trends above but you
feel a little nervous to try them yourself just get in touch at Vicki.maria@hotmail.co.uk
or 07970862124.
